Video I shot featuring a HC38 Telstar

Visited our friends on SV Horizon back a few months ago down in Ventura CA. We thought it might be fun shooting a little piece on his boat for fun. Have been busy with other work but did a quick edit on yesterday. S/V Horizon, A HC38 Telstar - YouTube
Tell me what you guys think. We plan on doing more in-depth videos on Horizon along with our HC33 Prism and other friends boats. Kinda like an interactive boat review with the owners explaining what they like about the boats.

Cheers

Jon

What is the point of the video? selling? Either way.... too much face and not enough boat video is my input. But nicely done! People don't really care to see him talking, would rather see the features of the boat while he's talking I would think.

I liked it, it was very well produced. Also nice to see an owner talk about the specs of his boat and how he used it. There is plenty of boat porn out there so sometimes it's nice to see a talking head in a video.

We where just goofing off and thought it would be fun to shoot us sailing. I didn't shoot any interiors because I wasn't sure what we going to do with it. The interview cut together nicely and I thought "why not?" Decided to make a little hans christian promo. Ill be sure to give a little more boat porn on the next video.

Wasn't meaning to be too critical. It would be a great sales video with some more interior etc. Nicely put together, good editing. I had an HC 38. (avatar) About the nicest interiors out there!

Didn't take it as critical at all, you made good points! Indeed the HC have nice interiors, typing in mine as we speak!

Sent this on to a good friend who is a former owner of an HC 43. Great to hear an unvarnished opinion of a classic. Cheers, Phil

What kind of equipment did you use? Nice lighting and resolution.

Re: Video I shot featuring a HC38 Telstar

This was shot with:
Black Magic Pocket Cinema camera
Metabones pocket camera Speed booster
Tamron 17-50 2.8 nikon mount
Shot in RAW

Colored in Davinci Resolve, then edited in FCPX

I have since sold the Black Magic due to the labor incisive workflow. I now shoot mainly on the Panasonic GH4 (own) and sony Fs700 (rent). The Gh4 kills the Black magic for resolution, but you now are dealing with 4k ( but the files are much smaller than the 1080 raw files, I mean A LOT SMALLER). The next video will be shot exclusively on the Gh4, much cleaner and just a hair less dynamic range.

Cheers,

Jon
