Vagabond ketch Teak decks
Does anyone know if an early 80s vagabond 42 has solid glass decks under all the teak. Only signs of leaks inside are where the diesel and water fills are.. Teak decks show signs of loose screws backing out and caulking in poor shape.

Re: Vagabond ketch Teak decks
According to Richard Jordan:
“... The deck may be solid, balsa, or plywood cored and teak lined though these days some have had their decking removed ...”

Re: Vagabond ketch Teak decks
vagabond 42 were built in usa.
i believe they were built by michelson yachts??
they are not included in the grouping of leaky teaky, as not built in taiwan.
not even cousins by design, either.....
beautiful boats.

Everything I have read (including the bronze builders plaque inside the boat ) has said they were built in Taiwan, including a guy whos father was involved in their outfitting in Taiwan and their importing into the US. Where did you get your info

Re: Vagabond ketch Teak decks
The fact is that if the caulking has shrunk away from the teak, the oP or his/her designate has some work in front of them.

Re: Vagabond ketch Teak decks
Blue Water Yacht Builders Ltd. was founded by Jack N. Chen, and built the Vagabond line of yachts (and Westwind) in Taipei, Taiwan.
The Vagabond 42 was designed by George H. Stadel III.

Re: Vagabond ketch Teak decks
While on the hard in Deltaville Va we saw a Vagabond 42 have the decks and core removed and there was embossed non skid F/G under the teak. The coring was aweful mishmosh and all water damaged. We have a Vagabond hull circa 83 and there is f/g under our teak as well. If they are leaking, and, " if the screws are loose they are" I think it is one of the biggest contributors to the demise of these lovely creatures. Make replacement a priority. Fair winds Jim
