Both concepts should work, because you're adding weight with the mushroom anchor. The devices will likely help in reducing speed, but not stop the boat's drift. Boat design is another factor to consider. For example, a boat with a full keel tracks better in rough seas compared to a boat with a fin keel. Meaning more drag is required for fin keels.
