We've got a boat here called "The Boardroom".
So when someone calls him at his office, his secretary can say "Sorry, he's in The Boardroom, I'll get him to call you when he's available".

There was a bar, immediately next door to the bank, Maggie [my wife] worked at, named “The Office” ...

Re: Urgent. Help with name
The problem with peoples names is they change when you sell the boat, "The Dreaming" makes me think of a horror film like "The Shining". I like Starwood, its nice, clear over RT, known words so the word develops when you say it phonetically. It means something to you.
I Chose SeaCoy as its easy, unusual and to me it says "C" Company, which is military and the first letter of my family name. All making it mine, our familiy's with a bit of a twist. The original name was "Four C's" which I thought was an RT nightmare.

We cannot come to an agreement and because we often think about what a boats name might say about it's owners, I'm throwing out the 3 main candidates to see how they might strike another sailor passing by our transom as a way of breaking the deadlock.
In no order:
Rachel June. I like it because it's feminine and a little tradional. It's my daughter's name and she is named after her maternal grandmother and my mother.
The Dreaming II. We named our first boat, a 23 footer when we were in our 20's The Dreaming. It's taken from the Kate Bush song that is about the aussie aborignal creation myth, The Dream Time.
Starwood78. Simply where and when we met when I was 20 and she was 16.
I've also considered Minerva, my favorite of the feminine deities that embodies strength, wisdom and kindness but the admiral has rejected it.
Please Help with your thoughts. I have only a few hours to work this out.
TIA Kurt

Name it whatever you want but don't name it after your significant other/spouse. Secondly, put some romance into it. Third, think of yourself being in an emergency with poor communications and having to spell it out phonetically.
The most ridiculous name I ever saw was a guy who won the lottery and used the winning numbers across the stern.
Good Luck.

Re: Urgent. Help with name
I like two-word boat names, and adjective-noun names are nice. Starwood Dream (rather than dreaming) strikes me as nice. Having a boat name to explain is a good way to make small talk. (I agree, I'd think Starwood 78 was an obscure boat model.) My boat is Virginia Lee (after mothers Virginia & Lee) but it wasn't an inspired choice. I'll do better on the next boat.

Re: Urgent. Help with name
When we were in Costa Rica a fellow cruiser started a contest on the VHF to find the most popular boat names. A HUGE number had either Eagle or Wind in their names. The grand prize winner: Eagle Breaking Wind!

Then there was "Shelter From The Storm" and "Cheeseburger In Paradise". I kid you not! Try spelling those out in an emergency! (Real names of real boats).

Re: Urgent. Help with name
I offered to call it Ruth or Roseann after the wife who not only is my hero but is the breadwinner who makes boats possible but she turned it down. I felt safe to offer it since we've been a couple for 44 years and married for 37. I also knew she was going to say no.
I've already said I don't name dingies. Their lifespan is too short and it makes me sad. I also don't do cutesy puns for the autopilot but if I was going to name the one I have now it would be Rover. Not because it's a dog but because it's ***** at keeping a course.
Thanks for being good sports. In case it was missed above, we settled on Starwood. No "the" and no "78". CG has the paperwork.
Thanks again,
Kurt
