Re: Unofficial ugly sailboat thread

OK, it's good to know I'm not alone. I completely understand that "people like what they like" and that fine. However, that explanation allows for the continued existence of Lutefisk.

Re: Unofficial ugly sailboat thread

I don't have a picture, but I did see a wooden picnic table mounted on what looked like two Hobie Cat pontoons with a small outboard motor. More a case of form follows function than any consideation for asthetics....

Compared to the swimming Ikea catamarans, this boat has an unique kind of appeal.

Re: Unofficial ugly sailboat thread

Wow them is some ugly boats!! $270,000 for that Pilothouse Cutter....would love to see what's in their meat locker? and are those water tight doors for when she goes under and rigs for silent running?!

I sure hope the first pictured boat isnt finished....was trying to determine where you enter that boat....pull yourself thru the stern opening while hanging down???

I do find the design of a picnic bench atop two hobie floats intriguing...I now know what the hole in our patio table is for.....a main mast!

Re: Unofficial ugly sailboat thread

RE: the OP's initial pictures - we have a lot of boats on Lakes Michigan and Superior that look similar, albeit without masts.

They're called Great Lakes fishing tugs...

Yeah, and where's the helm - I guess it wouldn't matter since you can't see anything from the cockpit anyway

That is a Spray or something very similar.

Nothing ugly there.

Think Joshua Slocum.

That boat is possibly someone's pride and joy. And to be fair, it may not be finished yet.
I Remember as a little boy sailing down the Estuary between Oakland and Alameda, my brother and I looking over at some really rundown boat heading in as we past. We both laughed and said "What a piece of Junk" Dad said "They are having just as much fun as we are". Words I keep in my heart to this day.

Unfinished or hurried finish homebuilds, always look ghastly.
