Trailering

Trailered our Telstar 28 from Annapolis to Madison, WI with 20hp motor on the transom. Trailered her for 5 years to Duluth, North Channel, Mackinaw straits, Traverse Bay, Door County...all with the 20hp motor on the transom.
Sold the Telstar and bought a 2001 Precision 23 with 8hp motor. Motor mount on the Telstar is quite different from the typical monohull motor mount like the P23. I have been told I should take the motor off when trailering long distance 50+ miles.
Any comments on this?

Re: Trailering

I always remove mine for transport. Just safer. But mine is only a 5hp, so a little lighter to remove and replace.
It is an expensive mistake if it comes off in transit though.
Other danger is if the mount lowers. Without the weight it will be fine, but with the ob on, it might shift up and down with bumps.

Re: Trailering

It's all about the mount and how it's mounted. You need to look at that yourself.
