If I knew I would sail her to the edge of the Potomac and have a tow or call a friend to help me bring into the new marina for the refit.

Send me a pm w/the location, details and pics of the boat. The trip is <100nm and not a big deal.

I'd try and find someone to sail the boat with you. Doesn't need to be a professional delivery skipper but someone who knows how to sail. If it's a problem getting out of the slip to where you can sail, get an inflatable dinghy with 5hp or larger motor, hip tie it to the big boat and power out to where you can sail. Pick a day with lighter winds not on the nose. You'll be going slow but in light air should be no problem. Tow the dinghy to your destination, tie it back up to the boat and power into the slip.

BE SURE THE ANCHOR IS READY TO DEPLOY AT A MOMENTS NOTICE SHOULD SOMETHING GO WRONG. If conditions aren't favorable at destination, anchor out till things are good.

If you do decide to sail without the engine available be aware that you won’t be able to generate electricity underway. If you have confidence that the batteries are in good shape and fully changed before you leave the slip you should be okay for a daysail. But be aware that running lights, radios, radar, and autopilot, refrigeration etc all use electricity. If you make the run during daylight and hand steer you should probably be ok.

The trip would be from Silver Marsh, MD to Cian River Marina, VA

I did a very rough course chart which totaled 96.77NM. I kept the course close to land since I was worried if/ when something went wrong land was not too far off the starboard side.

I will pm you this evening to discuss this more.

Definitely taking this into consideration, and I have no problems with going slow, just so long as the wind is moving me in the general direction I will be okay. ( I know, my bar for approval is fairly low, but since I am still learning I will call moving the boat without a motor running a success in my book.)

The anchor is good, but I am not so enthusiastic with the rope keeping it to the boat. Will need to replace that with chain long before I ever leave the PO's Marina.

The batteries are no good, there is corrosion on the terminals so they will for sure need to be replaced. Before I handle the final purchase I will bring a battery and check the radios to see if they work.
No autopilot that I could sse, but since it is tiller steering I believe it could be rigged for sheet to tiller for natural autopilot. Abet with constant supervision for accuracy.

The boat is really in fixer up shape, and needs a little bit of work but it is afordable and close to my area. With the motor gone I am seriously considering converting the boat to electric power and selling the Atomic 4 to fund that.

Not familiar w/Silver Marsh Md, but it looks like its up the Middle River. I believe your destination is the Coan River Marina which I know where that is located.
I'll wait for your pm.
