Re: through hull & seacock removal & replacement

The standard practice is to pose a question providing as many details as necessary and post your supporting photos here. In this manner you are likely to receive constructive replies. In this manner those who wish to help are not providing their email address to an unknown entity with no history on this forum.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Alan.

IIRC, new members can't post pictures, or links, until they have 10 contributions.

Re: through hull & seacock removal & replacement

Could someone post the Marine How To web page on seacocks for this fellow.
There is also another video or web page on the threaded rod puller but I’ve forgotten where I saw it.
Captain Mark and his manatee crew busy pulling out all his plastic seacocks.

Re: through hull & seacock removal & replacement

really not the big deal some make it out to be!
On mine I, removed hose by warming it up with heat gun (hair dryer works) bought a giant crescent wrench and propane torch from harbor freight, heated valve then it just unscrewed quite easy, the tru hull did the same if 5200 is still holding warm up outside of it and 1 smack with hammer knocked it right out.
To install new one took two people, she held two giant screwdrivers in it from out side to keep it from turning, this is where you actually want 5200! goop up the fitting and push it through till head touches hull one holds from below while one inside cleans around it and 5200 is applied then backing plate, then screw nut on let it sit a few minutes before giving it final torque.
use plumbers putty on threads then replace valve and hose.
also: this is NOT the time to scrimp on parts! groco is standard and can be got from amazon.

Re: through hull & seacock removal & replacement

I would differ with Keyspc in one step; use a good quality pipe joint compound rather than plumbers putty. I like Rectorseal but other qood quality with teflon prove fine. I have no affiliation with any products, foufou

I have replaced most of mine. I needed a through hull wrench (fits inside the through hull) because most bronze through hulls are threaded. Once broken free, they unscrew without difficulty.
I have replaced with new Marlon through hulls and seacocks. Some are 20 years old have have worked perfectly since installed. (Plastic needs no bonding to prevent electrolysis and it will not be blasted out by a lightning strike.)

AND in my opinion, 5200 should never be used.
