Thoughts on temporary roller furling jib idea.

Hi everyone! Bouncing around an idea for a replacement for my roller furling jib (destroyed by Hurricane Zeta). Boat is an '81 Hunter 27 (Cutter rigged). Insurance is replacing the lost sail and sheets once a survey has been completed (5 years since the pre-purchase survey). The survey is not an issue. However, I'm overdue for a haulout and need some serious bottom work. The boatyards here in Biloxi, MS were damaged by Zeta and are either full or making repairs. My earliest haulout window appears to be in January. In the meantime, I still want to sail. Full time liveaboard here and take pride in keeping my boat "turn key". So, keeping in mind that this is only a TEMPORARY solution until a proper jib is received, I have 2 hank-on jibs and about 6 extra feet of #6 luff tape. I was thinking about using the luff tape to make 4-inch tabs with eyelets in them, one for each sail hank, and installing them in the roller furler track and then attach the hank-on sails to the roller furler. Yes, it would furl pretty sloppy and the hanks may damage the sail. Not an elegant solution, but may keep me sailing for the next few weeks/month. Thoughts?

So, what's the worst thing that can happen? The luff tape rips out, the jib flies from three points. Nothing I'd take out in a hurricane, but "if it floats your boat..."

Pull the hanks off and and make rope loops like the old tall ships did with wood loops...a few zip ties here and there and you're good to go...
