Thoughts on Mariner 40'

I am looking into buying a 1971 Mariner 40' and keep getting warned against it, and reassured to buy it. It suits my livaboard and potential cruising needs perfectly, and the biggest problem I hear is that they have a leaking problem (which has been fixed by the P.O. having the whole deck removed and rebuilt). What do you all think of the Mariner 40'? Good and bad.

Re: Thoughts on Mariner 40'

folks actually CRUISE mariner 40s. they are good cruising boats, designed to sail trade winds.
have you sailed one yet??
sail it first. see how you like heavy displacement cruisers and go from there.
no one can tell you how a boat should feel under you but yourself.
there are some made of wood and some made of fg.
the wood ones are high maintenance, the glass ones some less.
sail it and inspect it up close and see what YOU think.
