Hi, there, watson,

Rich Boren, CF member and owner of SV The Third Day, has been redoing his deck on his Force 50, and may be a resource for you.

Zeehag owns a CT 41 ketch, and presently is in Mazatlan with it, fellow CF'er.

Bare bones this one: http://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/50539

Better shape and in the water center cockpit:

This one is a project that was never completed in Detroit: Used 1979 Formosa 51, Detroit, Mi - 48214 - BoatTrader.com

Hope this helps,

wow a new follower of these awesome boats....
to get the best deals you need to be in water and next door to a boat virgin who cannot care for it.... oops that is my excuse for rescuing mine-- there are a few out there---
leaky teaky yacht club a yahoo group with email addy iink my signatiure is a good resource--some folks want to sell their beauties. i know if one in michigan for 20k.. only needs a little reassembly... beautiful center cockpit model... try the leaky teaky ycht club. for 51s, there are some members with those, and can refer you to other locales.

Re: those old formosa / force 50 sailboats

Our Hardin seawolf is for sale, she has been cruising the greater Antilles for the last three years and has been anchored for the Hurricane season in Salinas in Puerto Rico. She looks beautiful with Douglas fir main and mizzen masts and with state of the art Dynex Dux standing rigging. She is a great Liveaboard with lots of storage space added tastefully by the previous owner, and comes fully equipped for day to day living. She is a comfortable blue water sailboat, with a monitor wind vane steering system. You can see some photos and details on Sailboat listings.

Re: those old formosa / force 50 sailboats

Good luck in your search. I bought my Hudson Force 50 about 4 years ago. They are big comfortable boats that are well suited to Trade Wind cruising with the ketch rig design. I''m going through every system as I prepare for an extensive cruise. The only advice I would give you is to buy the best one you can find as it takes a lot of money and hard work to bring these boats back to their former glory.
Let me know if I can help in any way

You might also want to check out SY ZERO | ..sail with us!. This young German couple bought an older Hudson F50 and they have fixed up the boat and have sailed in Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska. Check out their website. They are currently sailing south along the CA coast and may have some ideas on where to find one of these classic beauties

Re: those old formosa / force 50 sailboats

Ahoy Dr Watson,
As luck has it, we own and have been cruising our custom 52'Crealock Farrington staysail schooner, and are getting ready to cross the Atlantic again from the Canaries to the Caribbean and then to the Chesapeake Bay, where she will be for sale. She has a Vagabond 52 hull and was finished in California in 83. She has been continuously refit as necessary and is a very sweet liveaboard and cruiser with three booms forward, all lines lead to the cockpit, big bowsprit, transom windows Teaky but, no leaky decks, and a list of equiptment to make your eyes bug out. We are just begining to assemble a blog to advertise during our passage but if you are interested, drop us a note and we will send pictures.
Do be very thorough if you buy one of these boats that has been neglected and is a project. Much better to spend a little more on one that has been cared for and maintained

Re: Those old Formosa / Force 50 sailboats

I am writing this for the third time ....I hope this one sticks;

I want to share with you my favorite artist : tom rush ..i have seen him countless times [ not really ,,it has been 32 times] and i'd love to share this old song of his ..called "the dreamer" it is a song about a farmer who ,as he plows his fileds withe deep and long furrows ,is always thinging about what might have been .. always thinking how wonderous it might be to sail the seas and move from one place to another ,whenever the whim blew... the other part is from the perspective of the sailor , who has never been able to enjoy that ..the solid foundation under him and no matter what ,he knw he could always walk aback to that chucnk of land and it would always be his..
this is what the song is about and for a man who is not a sailor .i must commend him

please listen and you can search youtube as he has dozens of hits there ..the next one only exceeds the last one
