Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32
Hello Anybody that's Listening!
After an unfortunate fire inside, I am the new owner of the Chester P. We've been sailing the SF bay, and I'm in the process of restoring the interior, along with some modifications that will suit my personal desires better. At the moment I am building more cabinetry around the chart table for instrumentation and electrical infrastructure, and working on a design to replace the existing (bent) boomkin with a combo boomkin/Windvane support. If anyne is still around let's connect!

Heartbreaking to hear that Chester P was damaged. It was so beautiful and so much work had been done. Glad to hear that she was saved from the chain-saw and has a new owner that will bring her back. Let's keep in touch on this thread.

Michael here from Morning Star. Glad to hear you have rescued The Chester P. Does this mean you are going to be the Aries 32 newsletter guy?

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32
Without the fire I never could have gotten my hands on the boat, so I'm not too ashamed to say that it was very fortunate for me. It's a little sad for the previous owner, but it doesn't keep me up at night, haha. The exterior still looks great, only the inside is a bit rough now. Like I said, we sail regularly.
Newsletter....does it pay?

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32
I'm trying to find history of my Roughwater/Aries 33/32.
It came to Victoria from San Francisco probably early to mid 90's.
I can't make out the original name, but San Francisco is clear.
The Hull Idenitification Number is SAU000330283.
Anyone got some clues?
Phil

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32
No clue on the history of your boat except that it is an Aries 32 built for Sausilito Yacht Sales , hull 33 built in 1983.

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32
Trying to see if reviving an old thread will bet me an answer....
.
Can anyone answer my coupla' questions?
1. What is the prop shaft diameter on the Roughwater 33's?
2. What type of zincs were attached to the boats? Locations?
I'm trying to help out a local guy who just purchased one recently. The boat sits in the water so it'll take a dive to find out for myself.
I was hoping to find out before diving so he could go get some zincs for it beforehand.
Thanks!

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32
I have a 1979 RW33, my prop shaft is 1 1/4". You should be able to confirm that by measuring it aft of the coupler, underneath the cockpit sole. I use a limited clearance collar zinc. I also have a flat plate zinc attached inside the aperture, above the prop shaft, wired to the cutlass bearing.

THANKS!
You just confirmed a few things for me... SWEET!
.
I did see pics on someone's "I'm re-hab'ing my RW33 boat" blog recently that showed four holes just above the shaft and your plate zinc is just what I suspected went there! COOL!
Also... with the tight quarters in there... I figured it might be a collar/donut/limited clearance zinc.
The new owner just purchased this boat a few weeks ago and I've seen him working on it every-so-often since.
Probably dive on it tomorrow, clean it up, do the zincs, and shoot him some video too.

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32
Hi all, thread has been quiet for some time. Just checking up on y'all to see if anyone has started or finished any interesting projects on their Aries/RWs.
HORIZON is berthed in MDR in SoCal and I plan on doing some TLC this upcoming spring.
Hope everyone is still with their Aries and getting out on the water!
Cheers,
-Anton

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32
sorry coming to this way late but what about using a polymer backing plate instead of teak, its easy to machine (just like wood) won't rot and you can still glass it back in?

Re: Thomas Gilmer Aries 32
Mr. Blagg sir, Thank you so much for all your info on the Aries. I live in Port Aransas Texas and was just given "S/V Serenity" an Aries 32 as well. The city marina was about to have her destroyed but I know the mayor and he made it possible for me to take ownership as I could have never afforded to buy. Serenity also has the Westerbeke 30 in very good condition and even comes with a Monitor windvane steering setup in excellent condition. There are all the manuals and tons of paperwork on everything on the boat. Any and all advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank You most Kindly, May your day be Blessed!
