The 41ft Ketch Dreamboat
In the mid 80’s when I was living in San Diego, I decided to buy a boat. Down on Harbor Island I found the perfect boat, a 41ft Ketch. It was beautiful, with teak wood everywhere, and it look brand new. They were asking $80k for it, so after doing some research on that type of boat, I started the paperwork. Finally, after 3 weeks, they told me they could not sell it, because the owner was in China or Taiwan, somewhere in the Orient and there were some kind of problems. I never knew what went wrong.
Anyhow, here are some photos I took. Sometimes I wonder how different life would have been if I had bought that boat.

I don’t know. I was sure it was a 41, and after 35 years I don’t remember the builder. It looks a lot like the Cheoy Lee 42.

You would've had Popeye-like forearms from all the varnishing. And mad Uechi-ryu circle block skills. Wax on, wax off.
BUT it is a beautiful boat, perfect for lusting over.

Re: The 41ft Ketch Dreamboat
Think it's a Transworld 41 (William Garden). The interior door scrolling is identical to one my friend has in his TW41. Also a center cockpit, the same slanted boxed forward hatch, cabin hatches near main mast and cabin ports in forward/aft cabins. Only thing it missing is the forward scrolling on the hull just behind the bow sprit. His TW41 has aluminum masts installed by PO.
Very similar to a Formosa 41, but missing many of those features listed above and cabin top is different.

It looks like you are correct. Thank you. Do you think $80k been a good price back in 1985?

From the few pics it looked like it was in good condition and may have been a good price back then for a 5-10yr old boat.
Unless those boats were well maintained they quickly fall into the leaky, teaky generality as many describe them. Several of the TW41s that have seen are now almost 40-45 yo and need substantial work to bring them back to their glory days. One is owned by a dutch family and they are doing incredible work/craftsmanship to restore their boat (true dedication!)

Re: The 41ft Ketch Dreamboat
Looks like a CT 41 designed by William Gardner. Several yards built them with different names

Re: The 41ft Ketch Dreamboat
Maintaining it to keep it looking like it did would have been a labor of love that have kept your busy full time. It looked like it had wooden masts also? I do admire such boats and their owners, but prefer my low no maintenance clean fiberglass decks. Depending on how old she was back in 1980, $80,000 sounds like a fair price and she probably would have held her value if you had put years of labor into keeping her looking like she did. Me, I'd rather spending the time sailing.

Re: The 41ft Ketch Dreamboat
If you hear "William Garden" design it is the right boat for you besides the teak.
