That was interesting - and good to know a reef hasn't been littered with carbon fibre waste...





Also, a little bit of trivia which might be of mild interest to a few cruisers: The company 'Raphael-Fishing' which supported the salvage twigged something in my mind. Looking it up, it turns out that it was the outfit which Bernard Moitessier worked for in 1953/54 after his shipwreck on Diego Garcia, and it was through working for them on Cargados-Carajos that he made the money to build Marie-Therese II when he returned to Mauritius. He mentions that they were about to be out-competed by Indian imports, but apparently they have survived another 60 years! (the French seem to have a knack for keeping their businesses afloat while others come and go). So then, a company to which the cruising world owes a big debt of gratitude as well, never mind a few navigationally-challenged racers! Sailing to the Reefs is well worth a read, as are the rest of his books.

Really? I would think if anybody would be considered to have a knack for it, it would be the Germans. Siemens, BASF, Thyssen Krupp, BMW, Hugo Boss.....

It's not important, and completely O-T, but Japan wins this by a landslide. Germany second, and surprising to me, my own country third. French just behind us, so they don't do badly at all.
