There is also a problem with those bottles of various cleaners aimed at teak decks. Every chandlery sells them. They don't really clean at all, they strip a layer of teak off the top and the proud owner thinks the deck has been cleaned.

If you winter in a frozen place with a teak deck you really must use that white shrink wrap stuff. Otherwise small dribbles of water will land on the deck now and then and expand on freezing. Long term the teak in those spots will fracture.

A well maintained 1/2" teak deck should give 25 years.

The newer teak decks can be built in a separate shop, epoxy down to another thiner piece of marine wood, then epoxy down to the deck NO SCREWS,,,mega yachts use this and many smaller boats in fort lauderdale. might want to do a google search of fort Lauderdale florida teak repair

personally i do not like the,, maintenance of the deck

just redid a 44 foot boat, had to pull of the teak, decking, new marine plywood deck, highbuild put on, painted the pilot house then did the decking,,, templates were made by the teak layer, took them to his shop,, fitted perfectly

only caulking needed was around the edges,,, everything else done in his shop,
