Tanzer 27

I just purchased a 1983 Tanzer 27. She needs lots of work but the price was right and I took the plunge. I am a total newbie so please be gentle. One thing that is perplexing me is the pole in the cabin. I can figure out what it is for?

Congrats on your new (to you) boat!

The pole looks like it held a table. I'd discard it and find (or adopt) a wall bracketed one instead.

Looks like the tackle raises and lowers the centerboard, assuming there is one. The pole keeps the opening for the line entry above the waterline. Probably the mount for the cabin table as well.

Attached is a pic of my keel seems to me there would be a centerboard. Thanks for the replies! I have to wait for the spring thaw to get her home.

Yes, that keel would definitely have a board in it.

Come to think of it, you're right, as the table mount would probably have a 4 bolt base.

Saloon periscope so you can covertly see what's going on from under the boat...

Welcome to CF larman!

Re: Tanzer 27

Congrats, I also bought an 83 Tanzer 27 last May. I am in Norfolk VA and have sailed it all summer. Needed work and still does. I have found it to be forgiving to this newbie, easy to learn on and fun. When you start getting ready to slash her and the questions start popping up, send me a pm or post here and I will help you out all I can. I have a fin keel so no centerboard, but aside from that our boats should be very much alike. I have the Yanmar 2GM, and the same salon cloth pattern. No spinnaker so I can't help you there. Anything else let me know...... smooth sailing.
