Re: Ta Chiao-Built Boats

Thanks, James. believe it or not, I have been a member of the C&SF for some time, but, maybe you are welcoming me to the CT Fold. I must apologize, I see that I mis spelled Ta Chiao. I have always been a better reader than speller.

Re: Ta Chiao-Built Boats

I have a 1979 CT 41 ketch. Lots of work, but a solid boat. Replaced the engine (biggest job), and re-caulked the teak deck. Been varnishing and painting. A joy to sail.

Yes, we have a sense of humor about these boats we love........

Re: Ta Chiao-Built Boats

my formosa 41 was built at formosa boat builders, in taipei. i love her much and my leaky teaky has the bestest evahh decking, as it is more fg than wood fill, and they are abuse-able boats. this one was laid over on the santa barbara breakwall for a week and there is no sign of any kind of damage from that...is awesome. easy to repair and everything i have had to repair is in easy reach. is awesome.
there are things to fix, yeah--but, remember, they were built in 1970s..looong ago and is time for these repairs to be done if they have not yet been effected.
and they actually do sail well.

Re: Ta Chiao-Built Boats

Hi

Does anyone have any experience with the CT-54 chain plates, looking to buy the CT-54 and would appreciate any information on areas of concern on the boat.

Thank you

Re: Ta Chiao-Built Boats

There's a Ta Chiao for sale near me... looks beautiful on paper, good price too. Not knowing much about them so I googled Ta Chiao and found very little, I googled Ta Chiao Forum and ended up here.
Here's a question.... Is there so little information about them on the net because the owners are too busy enjoying their boats or is there a some conspiracy to keep such a beautiful and affordable boat secret?

Please, I'd love to here of your experiences of sailing a Ta Chiao particularly of their performance on various points of sail and in various conditions.

I'm interested in a Bermudan staysail rigged Ta Chiao 35 CT

Cheers

Ashus

How did the refit go? I'm looking at to buy a CT 34 near me. Anything specific I should look out for, in the way of possible major work.

Re: Ta Chiao-Built Boats

I have a 1974 CT41 Ketch. I noticed that all owners with a CT say that their HIN# starts with TAC. My HIN starts with CLXCS. When I looked it up it said this HIN belongs to Caillou Boats / Clipperships. Has anyone heard of them being associated or builders for CT (Ta Chiao)?
