Re: Surveyor in Massachusetts

Some recommendations would be helpful to me as well. I found a few boats that I have interest in.

Norm Leblanc I believe he is Danvers, he is excellent. You should be able to find his contact info easily

Thanks for the feedback. However Norm is on the opposite end of the state so I need to rephrase my question. Does anybody know a good marine surveyor in the New Bedford or southern end of Massachusetts?

Re: Surveyor in Massachusetts

Spent a blisteringly hot day last July doing an insurance survey with William Coble in RI. Close enough to Mass for you to consider. He was awesome, super thorough, asked really good questions, I was impressed. Went into every nook and cranny, took copious notes. And I'm a bit of a surveyor skeptic after my first experience...

...Which was a survey done by Barnaby Blatch. He is terrible. Worse than useless. Harmful. He had embarrassingly bad errors. Literally said the boat had no keel bolts, internal ballast, when it's an external lead ballast, plainly visible, with 18 bolts plainly visible in the bilge. He mentioned the motor being securely mounted, but in reality the rear engine mounts weren't even attached to the boat. You can actually see it in the snapshot he took of the engine compartment. He even had the number of blades on the prop wrong. What a jackass.

Re: Surveyor in Massachusetts

Thanks Chris… Unfortunately there's a bay between where he's at and New Bedford so he's only about 26 minutes closer then Norm and my big concern is I know these guys charge a pretty significant rate for their travel time. I'll probably just call both of them and see what their travel fee would be. Unless I get any more good tips from all the cruisers out there

Re: Surveyor in Massachusetts

We were happy with Gene Barnes out of Gloucester for our purchase survey. He worked around our schedule & did a thorough job. He was recommended by another local in the Salem, MA area. The survey was more than the average boilerplate (good / average / poor). If the need arose we would use him again!

Mike Taylor or Tony Knowles. Both are at the top of the profession.

Re: Surveyor in Massachusetts

I was very happy with James W. Igoe of Mattapoisett, Ma. He surveyed my
Cape Cory 33 in 2012. He is associated with ABYC, NFPA, SAMS and AMS.
He is not far from New Bedford.
