Suitable Make and Model for Around the World Voyage

I am planning a trip from LA to hawaii then a zig zag down through the SP and possibly all the way back around. I had my eye on a Beneteau 473 but have seen articles questioning it suitability for around the world cruising. I would appreciate any and all input as my experiance is limited to coastal and Channel Islands cruising.

I can't recall where I read recently about a Beneteau. Apparently it was hauled and placed on it's keel. The hull flexed in the middle to a point that the hull went out of shape and was severely damaged. The owners were horrified when they saw it. Maybe it was on anarchy, did anyone else see it?

We need a bit more info:
A) Budget to buy and outfit
B) On-going income while sailing
C) Crew size and experience

All of a sudden money isnt much of an issue. My first sailboat was Naples Sabot back in '75 since then mostly coastal a couple Newport to Ensenada races. We are planning on getting more training @ water sailing">Blue Water Sailing here in Cali. and in Florida for the next year or two. Try and take every course offered and log as many miles as possible, go out when the weather is rough on purpose stuff like that till we are ready.

Hi,

Go ask MarkJ. He knows.

The world has been circumnavigated in nearly anything though, a good Bene is probably somewhere in the mid of the things that did.

I doesn't really matter what boat. It's the preparation of the boat and crew.

The one your most comfortable with.. not me, Mark or Barnie... what rocks my socks may make you cringe... and vice versa...
Name a model and we'll opinion or someone on here will own one and give you the facts of experience... like cars.. one mans limo's another mans VW Beetle..
