Star Link in the Bahamas
Greetings,
I am thinking about getting the Star Link for mobile homes and installing it on my 44 Irwin.
Question anybody have experience with using one in the Bahamas? I do the Abacos, Eluthera and hope to make the Exumas late this month.
My concern is the " Geo Fencing " may prevent me from using it in the Bahamas. I'm not a tech guy but would appreciate advice from anyone who has one and used it the Bahamas.
Thanks!

Re: Star Link in the Bahamas
Starlink Roam was used on the rally, Chesapeake to Antigua. Cruisers streamed football 1000 miles offshore. Until they institute geofencing, it works everywhere.
This post is through our neighbor’s Starlink and our RedPort booster. We are in Martinique.
That said, you never know what might happen tomorrow.
There have already been rescues far at sea made possible by Starlink. My opinion is that denying service to vessels at sea or remote locations is a potential legal disaster.

Great question!
I just spoke to a friend currently in the Bahamas and she is very happy with her SLRV.
I really want one but the GeoFencing issue has kept me away.
Guess if it does evently evolve there will be a lot of these units on Ebay or as the previous post stated we form a class action suit in the name of safety against Elon.
That will scare him.

Re: Star Link in the Bahamas
Elon needs money too. Chances are better that he'll raise the price of Starlink rather than geofence it so it can't be used at all.

Looking on the Starlink home page it says “One-time cost of $599 for portable hardware or $2,500 for in-motion hardware.” Do you need the “in-motion hardware or is the portable hardware sufficient? What are people currently using?
Thanks.

Re: Star Link in the Bahamas
i believe the limit on movement is ~8-10 knots..
the portable dish is suffiicient for most...sailboats.
(if you have a
fast boat...and the budget..i'd opt for the high performance)
regular disk you can expect 50-200 Mbps downstream....the flat in motion dish should deliver up to 350Mbps .. uploads are equally poor with 1-20Mbos expectations..
(if you need faster uploads.. you will be explorind dual rigs/bandwidth bonding)
speeds are more depending on "priority" of your plan(the Roam/RV are at the bottom) and how many other starlink customers are around you.
the benefit of the in motion is more its enhanced field of view...its able to monitor more satellites

Re: Star Link in the Bahamas
The equipment cost seems pretty reasonable its the $150/mo that puts me off
