Spinnaker Pole

Anyone know of a good place to pick up a spinnaker pole for 1971 Coronado 27. I don't know much about them so I don't know what size I need or what price I should be paying so any help you can provide is appreciated.

The normal length for a spinnaker pole is equal to the "J" dimension of the boat. Your boat is shown as 10.75 feet, so that is a good length to look for. For such a length a diameter of around 2 inches would be ok, perhaps 2 1/2 inches if a thin wall section.

Can't help with price, but poles often show up in "boat bits" type second hand shops, and at much more reasonable prices than new.

For a 27 foot boat I would expect end fittings like this pic.
If you buy a pole ideally it will also come with a bridle.

And a trip line that allows you to open the jaws at either end by pulling it.
Bridles are easy enough to make with dyneema if you need to.

Oh yes. One end fitting will attach to a fitting on the mast, the other to your spinnaker guy/sheet.
The bridle will go to the topping lift (up haul) and typically the down haul (foreguy) (down thing) will go from the bow to the outer end of the pole. Or if you have a double bridle to the lower bridle.




Jaws UP so you can trip and lower the pole to disengage from the sheet. In light air the sheet will droop and be harder to disengage but in heavy air the sheet will stay up and the jaws up is the easy way. So jaws up for me.
I’ve done it both ways. The bigger the boat the more jaws up works well.

Unless you plan on racing a foot or so longer than 'J' pole will work fine. Racing rules set the 'J' length requirement. Look for a pole on Craig's List or eBay, buying new will be spendy. Paid $65 for the last 3" diameter pole I bought. Be sure the piston latches work as they can jam up with corrosion.
