When I was a kid I read a book, I read a book about someone who crossed the Atlantic in something like a 10ft boat perhaps in the 60's or 70s.
It was the shortest boat to cross at the time. I remember he took cans and varnished them to prevent rust, but then couldn't tell the difference between the main
meals and desert. I felt really sorry for him about that. He had to take distilled
water for irons to prevent it from getting algae. And at one time a tanker almost ran him down but for turning his dim
cabin light in for 10 seconds which allowed them to spot him. That's about all I remember.
Would anyone know the book/author?
