ship island for memorial day from New Orleans

Just wondering who's gonna make the trip to Ship Island from Lake Pontchartrain.. I'm proly not even in the correct area of this forum to post this.......

di dtrip from slidell-- rigolets then missippi sound... is not difficuklt--watch for crab pots after rigolets... need a goood sexy female voice on radio to open eyes of the awesome bridge guy... took less time than when the male voice was used..
have a good sail.. ship island is pretty. is a shame about cat island, as that was a lovely anchoring place in 2009-2010

That's my old stomping ground. Kept my boat in Longboat marina. Made many sails out to Ship Island.

I say good plan for 3 day weekend, go for it!

What happened to Cat Island, Zee? Still some public areas for camping there.

Horn Island to the east of Ship is a good place to stop.

Catamaran regatta to East Ship going on Saturday.

the traditional anchorage for Cat Island is Smugglers' Cove, which has silted in and what silted into the cove was the spit that protected it.

Very, very shoal draft boats can still go in there. There is a hole with a bit of depth, which is usually occupied

i was reading where the island is reducing in size?? i or is that propoganda
...i havent been there since 2010. was gorgeous when i was there.
the day bp well blew i was sailing on prefrontals from hell into what ended up a semi shipwreck situation trying to outrun an extreme weather front, same one killed 11 people in mississippi..was a bitch. we were sailing to a schedule.
never do that.
