Actually I find the Bay conditions to be very rough due to the stiff chop and short wavelength in addition to strong currents and numerous navigational hazards. I do not consider a centerboard boat to be ideal for bluewater even if it is a Shannon.

Strictly speaking you do not need a stout monohull for the Bay because you can do short hops on good weather days.
