Restoration underway! At least she floats.
Last project...The mast..I's rotted a wonder/miracle it didn't come down during trials, guess the old girl I's looking out for me or she really just wants to sail

Anyone rebuild and Aries mast yet?

Les Bragg has probably done the most to his mast in terms of keeping her whole. The Chester P's is still in great shape, but did do extensive work on it this past summer during the re-fit.

Iver Franzen does have original blueprints/drawings of the spar construction he tells me. He is/was Thomas Gillmer's partner in their NA practice in Annapolis, MD.

We all know folks who are master shipwrights whom could help you out if necessary.

Should be just like building a aircraft wooden spar so I'm not expecting to much difficultly

I met the owner of Charlie Chan this past weekend, a 1981 Aries, Hull #25. He scarfed in a number of new pieces into his mast this past year, and did a great job. His name is Gene. I'll attempt to get his contact information for you. He's on an adjacent dock in my marina.

Hi, I'm new to this site/forum. I have been working on an Aries 32 for a few months now and have an option to purchase. I would like to find information regarding the specifics of her manufacture, origin; original fit; previous owner/s etc. From what I've found here so far is she is from Sausalito @ 1978. Thankyou for all past posts andI hope to make friends &

Iver Franzen was Thomas Gilmer's professional partner in their naval Architecture shop in Annapolis. Iver now owns all rights and designs from the Gilmer estate. He may be emailed at iver.franzen@comcast.net.


The CC Chen yard pretty much stiffed Gilmer on any royalties stemming from hull sales of the Aries-32... there's more history that you'll no doubt glean from these threads here.

Chris, welcome to the small Aries family. Do you know the hull #? Can you post some pix? Where is the boat now and what's her name? All boat hulls were sold by CC Chen to Sausalito Boat Works (?) and commissioned by the Madden family from 1974 (?) through the early 1980's. Every boat has a specific interior and no two boats are identical. Early versions had a doghouse which gives you a bit more headroom in the salon. Hi All Aries/Roughwater 32/33!
I got my boat about 9mos ago. Hull SAU000330283. So far very happy. I've got an older Aries windvane I'd like to mount. Any suggestions?
