Sailing now into Cartagena de las Indias, Colombia or Panama

Any recent info on what the laws are or how much they are enforcing them exactly would be greatly appreciated. Cheers-

Re: Sailing now into Cartagena de las Indias, Colombia or Panama

Hello downwinder,

I can speak for Panama only. We are in Shelter Bay Marina at the Panama Canal since the beginning of the Pandemic. Panama has put relative restrictive measures in place. Here is what I know of relevant information for Cruisers:

* Boats are permitted into Shelter Bay but need to be quarantined at anchor for 14 days.
* Cruising boats have been going through the Panama canal, there seems to be no big problem. JuanJo (Shelter Bay Marina Manager) has been very helpful with the paperwork

* traveling within the country by boat is not possible
* day sails are not possible

* supplies can be obtained without problems but personal shopping is restricted (depends on the region)
* shipping from the US via the US is no problem

* masks and social distancing is mandatory

Hope that helps. If you have more specific questions, let me know.

Re: Sailing now into Cartagena de las Indias, Colombia or Panama

Hi UYA, thanks for the post. A followup question if you don't mind. We are hoping to transit the canal for the first time at the end of September. Naturally, anything can change between now and then...

Do you know if the cruising boats travelling through the canal are required to quarantine if they do not go to a marina?

I have been seeing conflicting information online.

Thanks in advance...

Sorry for the late reply. I am not sure about the procedure for boats coming into the country.
But since the boat needs to be measured and you will be taking a canal advisor and potentially line handlers on board for the crossing I assume the procedure will be the same whether going into the marina or now. But your canal agent should know.
