S-2 9.2 Center Cockpit Cruiser

Hi everyone. Been a member for a while, but haven't really been posting. Just lurking.

But I'm finally thinking about buying a boat, and I'm looking for input. Someone I know is looking to sell his S-2 9.2C center cockpit sailboat. It's about 30 years old, but appears to be in pretty good shape.

Here's what it has for equipment:

18hp Volvo diesel motor with 3 blade prop
24 gallon fuel tank
40 gallon water tank
12 volt DC battery system plus separate starter battery
Delta anchor with electric windlass, 150' chain rode
Rigging equipped primarily for cruising with roller furling
Dacron North sails (main, genoa, genaker)
4 55-watt solar panels
Gimbaled alcohol stove
Refrigerator
GPS chart plotter
ST 4000 autopilot (not linked to the GPS)
Depth sounder
16 mi radar
Standard Horizon radio
Wind speed indicator

He's asking $25,000. Last hauled out and had the bottom painted last year. It doesn't have air conditioning, which is something I would want to have installed, so any thoughts on that would also be appreciated.

Is the price fair, and is this a good boat for a relatively inexperienced sailor to have for a day cruiser and maybe short-term liveaboard for a few weeks out of the year? He was using it to island hop the Bahamas during the summer and was living aboard, so apparently it's doable, just wondering how doable.

Appreciate any help in advance. Thanks.

I just moved onto mine this week. Typing this lying in the aft cabin. I'm 6' 3" so it's a little tight, but doable. 25k is top of the market price wise. I paid 10k for mine 4 months ago. Although mine isn't equipped as well as yours. Good luck.

They are great boats. I bought mine about 2 years ago and we love it. Our AC is mounted in the aft locker with a vent in the aft bunk and another trunk line going thru engine compartment and coming out under companionway to coo the front. Where are the solar panels mounted, with a Bimini I haven't been able to figure solar out.

Re: S-2 9.2 Center Cockpit Cruiser

Thanks for the info! Did you install the A/C yourself, or have someone do it? I'll probably need to have someone else do it, so I'm figuring I'll probably have to drop a little over $2k. Sound about right?

He has the solar panels mounted on a sort of scaffolding that is raised above the bimini. Looks like a professional installation. Probably not very easy to do.
