Alberg was a fool and clueless when it came to
boat design..... I think not.
This C Dory has a
hull liner which makes the
repair a little more
work. If I remember correctly you got a good deal on this
boat. I would do the correct
repair in the off season. Putting a
compression post against the
hull liner may make it look like it is supporting the deck/
mast, but my guess is you are just pushing the liner up. Go to the
Cape Dory owners association web site to check on how others corrected this issue. I have a CD 27 but it doesn't have this issue. Some thing you need to check out is the
deck chain plate backing they are made from concrete rebar and are prone to rusting away especially the forestay and backstay. This could be a bigger issue for you. Cheers.
