I'm looking at
buying a 1977
Ranger R-28 I've found on Craigslist. It looks like it's in good condition, a few cosmetic issues but the seller claims that it's nothing that will affect the livability or seaworthiness. I am
buying it with
living aboard in mind, with a long term
cruise somewhere down the line. Does aybody here have personal experience, tips, or anecdotes regarding this particular model? It is an early
hull number, #8 I believe. I really like the layout, although the lack of a full
galley stove is a bummer. I am considering (if everything goes well and I buy the boat) possibly shortening one of the settees and dropping in a
propane range/oven for full
cooking ability, but failing that a
propane grill on the rail would be fine with me. I've heard that these models can be a beast to sail in any kind of real
weather, however I plan on only cruising the
Columbia and Willamette River area for the foreseeable future, and the primary use would be as my residence.
So any thoughts, stories, warnings, or tips you may have will be greatlyh appreciated! Thank you.
