Racer / Cruiser vs Cruiser

Am looking to purchase a boat for a family of 5. Criteria for selection is:
1 used sailboat
2 sloop
3 large enough for a family of 5 to sail in the Med
4 fun under wind
5 renowned fabrication
6 budget limitations
7 available nearby

Narrowed my selection to two X Yacht 119 and Moody 346

The 1st have all the required but is a racer/cruiser and the 2nd smaller but roomy sine it is a CC.

And now what?

Re: Racer/Cruiser vs Cruiser

That X Yacht is going to be a lot more sensitive to weight than the Moody. A family of five will put her way down on her waterline, especially loaded down for a long cruise.

5 ÷ Roomy compared to 5 ÷ Squishy

So, without looking at which boat is what layout, start drawing in little stick figures of you, wifey and kids:

Look at the fowrad cabins

And the saloon

So in my humble (never) opinion its down to what you want the boat for... long range cruising or short weekends where it doesn't matter if the kids complain.

I have a personal dislike of racing boats used for cruising. I think folks are better off in a purpose build cruiser; and a racer or racer/cruiser for racing.

I don't know your budget but this Swedish yacht would fill the bill and apparently has a very good reputation for the few built.

It is indeed an equation between:
Roomy vs Squishy
Slow vs Fast

As for the weight, the X 119 is a 3 birth and should be able to handle a family, guess so?
