Purchasing Mark Douglas 32

Looking at a 1979 Mark Douglas 32. It’s a bit dated but rigging looks solid, sails are like new (160,120,90 and stay sail) and 500hr 30hp 3 cyl Perkins.

Thinking three year plan to build it up and do some extended cruising around the PNW and beyond.

The windlass has a bit of a gap (reseated at the very least) and the cockpit sole is a bit soft.

Any insight into the boat would be great! I see it’s got a hefty bracket and a deck stepped mast.

Moving up from a Ranger 26.

Thanks!

Re: Purchasing Mark Douglas 32

The Douglas yachts were built for blue water!
'Castelhana', 'Penny Royal'' and 'Essex' are three that have crossed the Atlantic.

See our web site for more, including 'Kemana' that sailed the Pacific for seven years down as far as Tasmania from Vancouver!

Ahoy Youngblood:

I JUST came across your post about buying a Douglas 32.
If you're still considering OR did purchase it I'd be happy to chat.

Bought my Douglas 32 from Command Engineering in 1975.

I never crossed the Atlantic, but made 4 passages from Halifax, N.S. to Florida/Bahamas--with one trip back north via "the fast lane" = Bahamas-Bermuda-Halifax (single-handed)
