Actually the reverse is true - aluminum is recommended over zinc in salt water, not recommended for fresh water. Every resource you find will confirm that.

I’ve heard that and can’t understand why zinc is almost universal.
Just ignorance?
My factory Suzuki’s “zinc” is either aluminum, or the lightest zinc I have ever felt.
Magnesium for fresh I believe.

Tradition I suspect - and the double use of the word "zinc" probably leads some astray. Yes re magnesium.
