If you sail
Lake Ontario single handed in all kinds of
weather, a furler is a lot safer than going forward on a pitching
deck with a fixed tiller to haul your
jib down. There's no glory in being a drowned hero! Our marina
lost a sailor
single handing a 24'
boat 8 years ago. He did not have a furler and from the state of his
boat,
sails, etc. when it was found blown up on Burlington Beach at the west end of the lake, it was determined he slipped or fell off while hauling down his
jib. His body was found days later east of Toronto carried down that way by the
current. That's why a furler on a 24' boat, trentepieds!
