Peterson 46 vs TC 47

Why are the Petersons so popular on your side of the ocean and not the TC's for example as prices are similar?

What is a TC?

Peterson 44/46 is a proven blue water boat that is fast and comfortable. Lots of them sailing all over the world. Also a good owner's group at kp44.org.

This CT 47' is a center cockpit blue water ketch designed by Kaufman and Ladd and built by Ta Chiao. The boat sails extremely well, is fast and is an ideal cruising or live a board yacht.

I'm thinking somethings not right here...I have a CT48 that was built by Ta Chiao Bros.
CT means Ta Chiao as far as my paper work is concerned!

Whats to explain...the link clearly describes the CT as being a Ta Chiao as I said....
Am I missing something?

correction / finally understand

We europeans are not aware but are learning

CT = Ta Chiao is Taiwan yard
Cheoy Lee is Hong Kong yard

CT is perceived / see also broker pricing / as not so well built as Cheoy Lee

correct ?

Correct.....however a well maintained CT may be better than a neglected Cheoy Lee....but generally speaking the Cheoy Lee is a higher quality build.

The rumor that I have heard is the that their was some knocking off of the original Peterson design. I have heard it said that one was considered to be a inferior product. That's the rumor...I have no direct experience with the differences, but that could explain the perceived differences.

Mine isn’t that same design...it a canoe stern and originally had no cockpit and a single seat at the helm right on the stern....very different fron the "81" shown in the add....200 mile days...yeh right!
Doesn’t mean it wasn’t a knock-off from another design?

Any of the above...see the pictures of my 1978 CT48 the one with the blue dodger on the stern is the original lay out and the one with the guy standing is the lay out after/during the present refit with a new center cockpit.

I have no experience of a tc. I am very biased towards the Petersons for obvious reasons.

We have a Peterson (Hillier 46). In a marina she behaves like a houseboat, but out on the water she is like a cheeetah. I moved from Darwin to the Gold Coast against the wind (2300nm) a few months ago and it was a beat all the way. We averaged 7.2. We motorsailed about half of the way but were faster under sail. She was a wet boat in the horrible stuff, but all boats would have been wet in that weather and water.

There is one for sale in Sydney and another in Hamilton Is.

There are KellyPeterson 44's; Kelly Peterson 46's; Fomosa Peterson 46's and Hiller Peterson 46. [Naturally ours is the best for so many reasons, but any Peterson owner will claim this!!!] The 46's all have the same hull, just different fitouts.
