I would not call the Pearson "light displacement" at all. It is heavier than the Cape Dory. True it has a longer waterline, draws a little less and has a little less in ballast, but that hull design, especially with the skeg, is a great one (IMO) for what you are planning, as long as it has been well cared for. I think Cape Dories are great boats, but in this case I'd probably pick the Pearson over it. It will be faster and more maneuverable.
