pathfinder volkswagen

Hi
I recently buy a Nelson Marek 45 R
i have 2 questions that need some help .

-1- does anyone know where i can find someone to have an inspection maybe refit totaly the engine
it's a pathfinder old generation , from 1983. 50 cv
the boat is on Michigan lake

the plan is to sail (2018) Michigan, Huron, Erié , then Erié canal, to New York
then sail to saint Martin.
first year, that will give time to discover the boat, and fix later or sooner everything
then second year (2019) Panama, Polynesia, and New Caledonia, by Samoa and Fidji.

-2 - i have many supplies to buy , which is the best plan , about prices
for some like liferaft when i see the difference price between europe and usa, i ask myself if it's not cheaper to buy in europe and send tu USA.

maybe i dont have the best best adress to ask .

thanks for your help.

YY

Re: pathfinder volkswagen

Shift your Pathfinder engine is a marinised VW Mk 1 Golf diesel engine, any VW mechanic who has dealt with these engines should be able to help

Re: pathfinder volkswagen

Very smooth running engine. Parts are available but as has been said, auto mechanics are more familiar than marine mechanics. Make sure your main belt (runs injection pump/cam/counter shaft) is good, or better yet, have it replaced. If it fails, it is a major repair to the whole valve train. It also has a self bleeding injection pump. If you run it out of fuel just refill and crank away, and it will self bleed. Just dont overheat the starter. Great engine. _____Grant.

Re: pathfinder volkswagen

Here is germanys vw official shop. If you have specific part numbers, I can have a look if I find them anywhere cheaper (not a vw guy but at least a german native speaker)

Did you fix your heat exchanger issue(s)? Please let us know if you find the supplier for a new heat exchanger.
