Passport 47, 1985

Hey friends,

I am in the market for a cruising yacht and I am viewing this boat tomorrow in Annapolis.

https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/198...rt-47-8821346/

It looks like a beautiful yacht, with good bones. There is some work I think that needs to be done, but to me it looks mostly cosmetic.

Is there anything in particular I should be concerned about or look out for tomorrow when I view the boat? What do folks here think of this boat, make, model and condition?

The only reason we did not consider a Passport was the teak deck. The interior looks in good shape. A bow thruster is a big plus. Good size boat. We bought a 47 footer also.

I would want a thorough inspection of the new deck. No soft spots. 1985 will be harder to insure without full survey (new rigging).

Boats have a good reputation. Best of luck!

Zander,

Have the surveyor pay special attention to the rudder. Had one next to us on the hard one time that just kept leaking water out of it, not a good sign... Subsequently, the boat was repaired by the company selling them at the time.

I have no firsthand knowledge but have heard good things about them. I seem to recall Perry considered it one his favorite creations.

Nice, the galley has some space, so you're not forced to stand directly in front of the stove.
The forward head has a real bronze Groco K toilet that you can still get parts for, with minimal care it'll last forever.
The Antarctic model Dickinson, that you can set a teakettle on, and properly installed with a safety rail is a good piece of kit.
The built-in handholds at the corners of chart table and galley are nice touches that will be appreciated at sea.
The Beta engine is a plus.
The starboard settee, located lower down in the center of the boat will provide a good bunk at sea.
Others may differ, but I consider that keel stepped mast a good thing.
With just a cursory look thru the pics I like what I see.
Bow thruster already mentioned by others.

So, Zander, did you visit the Passport 47 in Annapolis? How was it?
