Ignore the Crap in the bed berth . You can see the aluminum pipe that is my compression post on the left side of the picture.
Not in mine, just a big stainless steel arch built into the base to support.

406,

What do you think of your bench vice. Back on post 380 you have a pic of a blue bench vice. Do you like it, recommend it, what is the mfg?

Thanks

We love the bench vice, it has some nice features like swivel, rotate, etc. Very easy to work with. I have three or four bench vices and that one is my favorite. The only advice I would give it to mount it on a little block to elevate it off the bench another few inches for ease of locking it down. Not hard now but would give more finger clearance if it had been mounted on a little piece of 2x4.

I will get the name off it for you Lord willing tomorrow. It was a gift from my Dad, its very useful.

You scored a nice boat, overbuilt and ready to cruise. I don't know if I told you but I went with two 2'' thru-hulls for my cockpit drains. I liked how yours was done.

That is great to hear and imo one of the best minor upgrades you can do to any cruising sailboat.

Looks real similar to the one I just got from harbor freight

Its a Yost and if this one was ever lost I would buy another one without hesitation. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Yost-5-1-8-in-Vise/50006552

Thanks for the vice info and the tip about putting 2x block under when bolting it down.

Hello,

So got some layers of glass on today and some fairing compound. Still, lots to do.

We carry a 2.5" copy of this on board the boat. Great when you need an extra hand to hold something. Clamps to the companion way steps and is at just the right height to work with. It's never going to be used for heavy duty stuff, but that piece of aluminium or wood that needs cutting it's perfect.

I have seen others with a winch fitting on the base. there is no way I want metal filing going anywhere near my winches.

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

Got layer of fairing compound on today, it's ready to go for the most part. We need to grind a few other patches down on the cabin trunk then fair the sides together before painting.

This has been a LONG process but we want to do it as nicely as possible. We want her to be beautiful and strong when we're done. Capable of cruising should we choose. Granted its a small boat but prepared with that in mind, making it rugged, smart, resilient and overbuilt.

That's a great idea, any pictures in action? Thanks for the link by the way. It sounds like a nice tool to have on board.

Re: Part 2 - Columbia 29 refit, in the Rocky Mountains

with all the glass, epoxy and fairing material we had to open up the frames a tad to fit the size 4 portlights back in. The wife also cleaned more old junk off the toe rail/bulwark area in preparation.
