Oyster 66 vs. Moody 66: Which would you trust for a short handed circumnavigation?
Wondering about opinions on choosing between a Moody 66 and an Oyster 66 for a comfortable and safe short handed circumnavigation, assuming that both have been refit to the same level of readiness.

Why do you think you need such a huge yacht if you are planning to sail short handed?

It’s a preference based on a bunch of requirements.

Choose whichever already has a dedicated Grey Poupon locker. Those without this feature are pedestrian…..

Quiet there, in the peanut gallery.
Moody is faster and has a more solid structure. Better deck gear. But Oyster has a better layout and much better fitout. For the tropics --- Oyster doghouse windows open; Moody don't. That would be enough by itself to sway me to Oyster. So Oyster.

Many thanks Dockhead. This makes a lot of sense. But given the speed, strength and fit out, why not just live with A/C or have the doghouse windows modified to open? I’ve seen far more radical mods done on other vessels.

I would go with the Oyster, personally.

How about something faster, easier to manage and with a shoal draft: ROUTE 66

While considering Oyster v Moody, and short handed sailing, can I suggest broadening the scope of craft to include an Amel , built in France in sizes from 50 to 65 foot and are by design intended to be sailed world wide by a couple.
If I had 60 foot purchasing power, that would be my preference.
