Original sales price of 80’s/90’s Amel Maramu/Super?
Hey all. Been doing a decent amount of research on a seaworthy bluewater vessel that can be my floating vacation home. An 80’s or 90’s Amel (Maramu, Santorin, Super Maramu) seems to hit everything I’m looking for. Their reputation for build quality seems amazing and I’m really digging the center cockpit/hard dodger/rear captains birth setup on them.
They seem like a solid amount of boat for the money which got me wondering how much one would have paid brand new in the 80’s/90’s? Anyone have any idea what these boats were running straight from the factory?

We have Super Maramu hull number 160, out of about 465 built. Ours is a 1996 model, and I believe that the factory price on delivery was on the order of $550K
And they are AWESOME boats.

Ours is from 1989 and is hull number 007... had a major refit in 2015.
Now in Nuku Hiva, Marquesas, French Polynesia having crossed ATL and PAC solo with my partner.... she's not much of a sailor... we crossed from Santa Cruz, Galapagos to Fatu Hiva in 19 days 1 1/2 hours. Good routing was very important :-) . :-)
As stated previously, they are great cruising vessels.

Averaging 165 miles a day for 19 days? That's pretty good for a boat that you say isn't much of a sailor... Pretty good for any sailboat...

Exactly the responses I've seen while researching Amel that have me so interested in them!

Wow that's pretty crazy, yachtworld prices range from $120-160k. Talk about value holding strong.

Amel is a quality boat.
I think it’s normal for quality boats to continue to sell for the same price as new, just of course when you factor in inflation, that is when you see the actual depreciation.
For example my 87 IP sells for the same as it did new, plus don’t forget the prices you see in YW are often fantasies, and do not necessarily reflect actual sales prices.

Made a mistake was just talking to my father. Sale price
Was $240,000. When he placed the order in US dollars.
But when boat was finished the franks had devalued around 30% and he ended paying $168,000.

I wouldn't call it holding its value, $160K in 1982 is worth around $420K today.
I looked real hard at Amels, as I recall a good deal for a 1982 Maramu in 2010 was around $200K, I have seen them as low as $85K last year. Of course condition has a big influence on price.
Amels are good boats, especially if you like ketchs. I decided against a ketch and there were few Amel sloops available.
