Origami Steel 36

Anyone have real life experience on a Brent Swain 36 ?
Just real facts and experiences from people that have built or sailed on them.

I am buying a 36 and would like to talk with other owners of similar boats.

I do not want to hear about any of the trash talk that I have read in posts.
Grow up guys, I am sure you would never talk like that face to face.
I have built a steel boat in the conventional way, ribs and stringers, so no bad mouthing allowed.

Re: Origami Steel 36

I live in the northwest BC coast. Great boat anywhere but especially so in damp, cold climate. The design calls for an insulated interior (usually sprayed in) about 2 inches thick (except bilge). I have a wood stove in mine ... lots of wood here. Dry, warm... "feels like a long lost friend". Launched mine in 2006 (youtube.com/seascene) for the launch video and have lived aboard 12 years. There is a group on yahoo with tons of info and pics. You can build them yachty or just minimalist plain or from time to time a used one will come up for sale.

Re: Origami Steel 36

Hi NCJ... I have been on that boat.... about 10 yrs ago. I know Winston and his daughter Kim (as far as I know Kim is still sailing a Swain somewhere). I built my 36 along with Evan Shaler just around the corner from their place. Salt of the earth falls short of the character of Winston. Winston has built perhaps 2 or 3 Swains and has helped out on many other Swains including mine. His steel boat building savvy is top shelf. Good luck
