Old School Sailboat

So I was out looking for a dinghy sailor a few marinas down from me that I heard was for sale.

I went to the boat I thought I was told had the boat but when I asked the lady that came to the companionway said in an English accent " Oh no, terribly sorry we have no dinghy for sale."

Anyway their boat was quite awesome. First thing I noticed was the old school rigging setup.

They did have a beautiful dinghy and probably a sailor but not for sale....

Yeah I wanted to check it out in more detail but didn't want to bother those folks onboard.

I may try to stop by again and catch them out on the dock so I can get more details.

Looks like they are old salts and with their accents probably crossed the Atlantic on that boat here recently or at some point.

I was really surprised to see that rope on the bottom section of their rigging and elsewhere, but it is in very good shape.

Lanyards reeved through the deadeyes are typically tarred line, but (obviously) don't have to be. The stopper knot in the lanyard is usually on the inside so that it can be checked visually from on deck before you start climbing up the ratlines. These stopper knots seem to be showing on the outside of the deadeyes, but there are no ratlines.

Either way, they are prepping to cross the Atlantic now.

There are two older folks and two maybe in their 30's onboard. Looks like they have a spare mast section onboard also.

At least one of the masts has two parts with the second section attaching near the top of the first like ship of old.

Sort of like the attached photo.

The boat looks like it would be perfect for long distance cruising and you would have lots of room.

A crew of four would be good also for watch standing etc

No, but I saw one of our local guys that has worked on boats for many years (fiberglass repairs etc, he must be mid 60's plus) and his answer when I asked him what type boat it was agreed with the earlier poster that it was a Peterson.

He said that he thought he heard it might be headed to Canada when I asked.

Schooners are lovely but often have very cramped interiors.

That extra big mast and all. Some ketches, with talk mizzens have similar issues.

Did you see it when you left Cobb's Boatyard on your "free" boat?

Btw I mentioned your "free" Cape Dory 25 on the Frustrated thread. (Our Community) it's about how much it costs to sail and get a boat.

Maybe a picture would help some understand that some free sailboats are worth restoring
