Wow! That’s 1,313 GBP. I’ll gladly sail across the North Atlantic the next time I need to “freshen up” belowdecks.

I have Sailrite's LSZ-1 (the blue beast) on the boat and boy has it been used! Everything from fishing lure holders, new pillows, cockpit cushions and dinghy chaps, to dodger and sail repair for others, and even stitching a new sunshade on our huge jib.

The Fabricator is a bigger, heavier machine, but can still sew lightweight T-shirt type fabric. I absolutely love it. Wish I could have it on the boat but we'd have to permanently remove the dinette! lololol
Actually, you can. Put down a doormat, then the Fabricator, and slide it out for an extra seat (you'll have to make another cushion, plush velcro on the lid to secure the "seat", and voila, an extra use for the machine!)

LOL all the way to the bank!

I received a quote for $3,000 from a well-established quality canvas shop in Portland to have cushions built for the dinette (for our Airstream) that we patterned after our dinette on our sailboat. This included foam, upholstery, zippers, thread. Yikes. Labor is expensive.

I was able to build them myself for $3,005 by ordering everything from Sailrite. This included a brand new industrial Fabricator sewing machine, a foam saw, and all the foam, fabric, tools, and materials (because all my stuff is on the boat.) The total price included shipping.

The cushions turned out lovely! And I have a new sewing machine on land!

LOL, love it! Great job on the cushions!

Say, do you remember how you sized the foam to the sewn covers?
The Sailrite videos are suggesting foam slightly over nominal and the sewn cover slghtly smaller. Thanks!

Re: Noob here...Cost for reupholstering?

This is a "cruisers' forum", so I will add my 2 cents.
A friend with a sister-ship have her cushions all remade in Seattle for about $2,400.
I had a complete fabric sun cover made for our 46' cutter last April. This keeps the boat covered while it is on the hard during the tropical summer hurricane season. Including the fabric, it cost about 400$US.
We will have all new cushions made this year.
If you are planning to travel, you might wait until you are in a place where labor is very reasonable price and high-quality craftsmen are grateful for your business. It works well for them and for you.

Pick up a sewing machine, take apart the old ones and you have your pattern. There are no fancy/hard stitching. All straight stitches.
