Newporter Ketch Handrails

Aloha from Hawaii. I am the new owner of a previously abandoned 47' Newporter Ketch for my first boat. While I found an old sales photo of the boat with beautiful wooden handrails and footing for the stanchions, all of those somehow disappeared before I purchased it. I have yet to see a single wooden handrail here in Hawaii, but am wondering if there is any "standard" or recommended dimensions for height, width, and or material of handrails.

It is also a center console with a back stateroom, which I have not been able to find another Newporter of the same configuration to compare it to.

I'd appreciate any help you could provide.

Re: Newporter Ketch Handrails

I think you might be including the bowsprit in the length?
To my knowledge they were all ~40' long and none were center cockpit with an aft cabin.
It sounds like yours was heavily modified by some previous owner?
Yes, they had a "Taffrail" surrounding the cockpit area.
This link might give more detailed info.

PS, they date from the '50s>'60s and are now in the 60+ years old range.
They were built of plywood that was covered in fiberglass, but the resin used was polyester, and the inside surfaces of the hull were not coated with any kind of "2-part" product.
A very thorough inspection is needed to ascertain any troublesome areas.
