Newport 30 MKII questions

Aloha everyone!

I’m currently shopping for a small liveaboard in O’ahu, and have come across a 1979 N30 MKII in my price range that I am going to see in person in a few hours. I will be taking pics and vids to accompany this post while I’m there.

I would really like to hear everyone’s experiences with this model. I found the Capitalyachts.info site, and a lot of good info there, including manuals and a few reviews, but nothing specific to first time sailors and liveaboard capacity. My understanding from the site is that most folks love theirs, and there are some common issues with window leaks and the like, but that they are great boats overall?

Of course I know it is variable based on P.O. and my own needs, but I was hoping someone with one of these can chime in and offer their own experience.

Many mahalos!
Anthony

Re: Newport 30 MKII questions

I live aboard my 1974 with no problems. Wouldn't recommend more than 2 people to live aboard.
I replaced the windows because of leaks.

Being older boats, look for weird things done by previous owners.
Overall, I like the boat alot.

Re: Newport 30 MKII questions

Thanks, rDempsey.

I did end up buying her. There are some issues. The inboard was replaced with an Evinrude outboard, and there are some fiberglass chunks that require repair. New battery, a couple new windows (there aren’t many to begin with.

Question on the window replacement... is there an option that allows them to open for cross ventilation? I would like them to have screens akin to the one in the head, but I’m not sure where to start with that project. I’m pretty handy, so DIY is not intimidating at all, but I wonder where I can go to find parts for it.

Soon as I figure out how the heck to post photos on here, I will.
