Newport 30 MK II Salon Hatch

I am putting a Garhauer Rigid Boom Vang on, and have to rehinge the salon hatch. Any suggestions?

remove and turn it around. Do you really need a rigid vang on a cruising boat? I would opt for the better air flow than the vang.

Hmm! Perhaps not? It will keep the boom up. I'm setting it up to single hand.
I don't think I can just turn it around. It has a curved front end. I was thinking about making it slide back? I have a forward hatch that opens toward the bow.

a topping lift will keep the boom up and be a whole heck of a lot less money. Well setup you set it once and forget it.
Most my boats had a vynil coated wire from the masthead down to a few feet above the boom end. Then a block on the bottom of the wire. A piece of line from the boom end thru the block, back to a turning block on the boom and to a cleat on the boom up toward the mast.
But as I said, once you get it just right you leave it.
I used a four part tackle vang with large snap shackles and actually used it more as a preventer than a vang.

I guess I had an extra $350, liked the idea of it holding up the boom, but the big thing was it holds the boom down when running with the main on one side and the jib on the other. Oh, it also holds the boom when reaching.
