Someone mentioned the Bohemia River after going through the C&D Canal. If your draft is 7'10" you should be very wary of the Bohemia River. Its a shallow area. We came through C&D a month and a half ago and found ourselves among several other boats powering through mud trying to get out and our draft is 5'6". We'd anchored in ~7' and the tide blew out the next morning, obviously we didn't anticipate it correctly.
You can get 7'+ into Barnegat. The trick is to NOT go straight out the "channel" but to come in from the north, close to the shoreline, and stay VERY close to the tip of the green-side jetty. When leaving, go the same way -- head NORTH until you are well outside the jetty, then circle back to the south.
YIKES! My post is wrong! I said "green side" but meant "red side." The entire rest of my post reads like "red" and is correct.
It was the news story posted above that caught my eye and my error.
