Looks like a not particularly handy person's attempt at one of Bruce Roberts' sprays

That's the anchor (or 'anker' in HotRod speak).

L.L. Bean still sells tents, if you're actually looking to rough it for a spell. Probably more comfortable, also. Just a thought.

I don't know, I think it'll buff out.

On the other hand, I can hear the admiral now . . .

I'm not an expert. Nowhere near.

But I think those are called "Artificial Reef, not installed yet"

Re: Need help identifying this Sail Boat

A new guy comes around and you all jump in his stuff, give him a break!

So it's kind of hard to tell what this boat is. From the little info presented it appears to be a steel hull with rounded chines and a wood/glass deck house.

So there is a possibility that this was built at some professional yard. Home built boats don't ususally have round chines.

But there are very few production steel boats. Some steel boats were done by professional yards as one offs or one of a few. Most were home built and can be more than problematic.

It would help if you could get a good side on view of the boat, so we could see the lines better. Also a few measurements and what ever history you have would be of help.

She looks to have had good lines at one time. There seem to be the record of a few "docking incidents" inscribed on her bow, stb quarter. It looks like the stub of a wooden tabernacle, I would find that worrisome.

My guess is that you have a wood/plywood house on the hull. IIRC Topper Hermanson kind of specialized in that kind of mixed construction. But the clipper bow does not look like one of his boats, but I could easily be wrong.

All that said, probably best to run to the nearest bar and drink it out of your head.

If you are determined then feel free to ask additional questions.

There is nothing positive to say about this hulk. Just walk away.

You can bet that thing was built by an amateur woodworker who had no real concept of a sailboat. Its kind of a back yard. Shed that hopefully will float

Welcome aboard!

You need identifying this boat so I will just let you know it is a steel hull of undertermined design until you contact the owner who tells you differently. It doesn't look like a Spray to me. A fellow named Roberts designed lots of steel boats so it might be one of his. I am assuming you are asking because you are interested in taking it on as a project. If you are particularly young, have quite a bit of time, energy and money this might be a project for you if you'd rather work on a rusty steel boat than go sailing. If you are looking to save money then a project like this is not the way to be thrifty.

Each day you are working on your boat you are not sailing or cruising. You might be living aboard in a mess of tools, grinding dust and sawdust but you won't be comfortable and neither would your first mate.

My advice is to listen to all the people who will be telling you to step away from this as a project and find something that might be sailable as is but need some cleaning and small easy repair.

I apologize if you are a very experienced boatwright, welder and just want to work on a boat.

kindest regards,
