Name change

Hi

I am finalizing the purchase of a 41 Bristol. The transom needs to be repainted and I would like to change the name. I need to transport the boat to my marina before i do the work and change. So my question is which would be the best way to go.

1) Leave the name and transom as is and document the boat with the current name and change it later at the end of the season.

or

cover the current name with something that meets CG requirements and put the new name on temporarily? not exactly sure how I would do this.

Thanks for any input or ideas

Me being superstitious, I would say if you rename it you have to do the ceremony, even if it's by yourself. But thats just me

It's going to take 6 weeks or more to receive your new documentation, so just change name and hailing port when you exchange documentation otherwise you have to pay twice. Until you get new document the old name is as valid as new name will be, and nobody is going to be checking your papers against what's painted on anyway are they ?
