Most Beautiful Cal 39 Mark II

I am relatively new to Cruisers Forum, but have sailed on and off for over fifteen years. We recently took possession of our first real sailboat, and could not be more thrilled.

S/V AIOLOS is a 1978 Cal 39 Mark II Tall Rig, with extensive updates. The PO's loved her well.
  • Redone interior with birds-eye maple and teak
  • New Shatauer sails (7 of them)
  • Watermaker + solar + windvane
  • Tecma head
  • New Iverson dodger and full Iverson cockpit enclosure, plus custom winter cover
  • Standing rigging, wiring, systems all updated within last 7 years.
  • Etc etc etc
The only ambiguity is the original Perkins 4108. Engine hour meter stopped at 1800 hours (6-7 years ago?), but she had a recent top-end rebuild and we'll milk it as long as we can.

Berthed in Seattle, we have years of PNW sailing ahead. No offshore plans... yet.

She sails beautifully, and is a dream come true for us. Look forward to posting/learning from the forum as we go. A few photos:

Cheers,

That is a nice one. Cool what they did in galley and salon.

She's a beauty! Just don't let Robert Redford sail her! (movie reference "All is Lost")

Absolutely gorgeous! Obviously she wasn't used in the Redford movie "All is Lost".

Re: Most Beautiful Cal 39 Mark II

As the owner of an '82 Cal39 MRK III for the past thirteen years, a couple of observations: You have a beautifully maintained example of one of Bill Lapworth's notable designs. I'm certain that you will be happy with its' performance, as well. The previous owners of our boat made the decision to replace the Perkins with a Yanmar. Save for an inconvenient water pump">raw water pump location, we've been happy with the switch. No oil leaks and the bilge is pristine. Enjoy your beautiful boat!

The engine is but a teenager. Keep up with the oil and filter changes and you should have years of service ahead of you. She's a beaut.
